ADVANTAGES OF 304 STAINLESS STEEL FLANGES

The excellent machinability of 304 stainless steel is another important feature. Because a blunt edge can cause excessive work hardening, the flange’s cutting edge must be precise. Its deep cuts shouldn’t go too far, as this could leave chips in the work area. Austenitic alloys have a low thermal conductivity, which causes heat to be concentrated at the cutting edges and requires the use of large quantities of coolant.

304 stainless steel flanges can be annealed and solution annealed, but cannot be heat treated to harden the material. This is a technique for rapid cooling after heating.
