Introduction to Rust Removal Technology of Submerged Arc Steel Pipe

In the process of anti-corrosion construction of oil and gas pipelines, the surface treatment of large-diameter submerged arc steel pipes is one of the key factors that determine the service life of pipeline anti-corrosion, which is the premise of whether the anti-corrosion layer and the large-diameter submerged arc steel pipe can be firmly connected. According to research institutions, the life of the anti-corrosion layer depends on factors such as coating type, coating, and construction conditions. The surface treatment of large-diameter submerged arc steel pipes accounts for about 50% of the impact on the life of the anti-corrosion layer. Therefore, the requirements of the anti-corrosion layer standard for the surface of large-diameter submerged arc steel pipes should be strictly followed, and the surface treatment methods of submerged arc steel pipes should be continuously improved.

1. Cleaning: Use solvents and emulsions to clean the surface of the steel to remove oil, grease, dust, lubricants, and similar organic matter, but it cannot remove rust, scale, welding flux, etc. on the surface of the steel. Therefore, it is only used as an auxiliary method in anti-corrosion work and is also one of the simple maintenance methods.
2. Pickling: Generally, chemical and electrolytic methods are used for pickling treatment. Pipeline anti-corrosion only uses chemical pickling, which can remove oxide scale, rust, and old coating. Sometimes it can be used as a re-treatment after sandblasting. Although chemical cleaning can make the surface reach a certain degree of cleanliness and roughness, its anchor pattern is shallow and it is easy to pollute the surrounding environment.
3. Tool rust removal: Use tools such as wire brushes to grind the surface of the steel to remove loose oxide scale, rust, welding slag, etc. Hand-opened tools can remove rust to the Sa2 level, and power tools can remove rust to the Sa3 level. If the steel surface is attached to a solid iron oxide scale, the tool rust removal effect is not ideal, and the anchor pattern depth required for anti-corrosion construction cannot be achieved. It is a relatively primitive rust removal method.
4. Radiation rust removal: Radiation rust removal is to use of a high-power motor to drive the radiation blades to rotate at high speed, so that steel shots, steel sand, wire segments, minerals, and other abrasives are radiated to the surface of the submerged arc steel pipe under the strong centrifugal force of the motor. It can not only remove oxides, rust, and dirt but also the submerged arc steel pipe can achieve the required uniform roughness under the fierce impact and friction of the abrasive. It is a relatively perfect rust removal method.
