What are the advantages of 15CrMoG boiler steel pipes compared to boiler steel pipes made of other materials

First, the high-temperature performance advantages of 15CrMoG boiler steel pipes:
(1) High-temperature creep resistance: During the operation of power plant boilers, pipes are under high temperature and high pressure for a long time, and the metal will undergo slow creep deformation. 15CrMoG boiler steel pipes contain alloying elements such as chromium and molybdenum, which can significantly improve their creep resistance. They can work stably for a long time in a high-temperature environment of about 550℃ with a low creep deformation rate. Compared with some carbon steel boiler steel pipes, such as 20G, the latter’s creep rate increases significantly when it exceeds 450℃, making it difficult to meet the needs of boilers with higher parameters.
(2) Oxidation resistance: Under high-temperature conditions, oxygen easily reacts with the metal surface, causing the pipe to oxidize and corrode. The alloy composition of 15CrMoG helps to form a dense oxide protective film on the surface, preventing further oxygen erosion, slowing down the oxidation rate, and maintaining the mechanical properties and wall thickness of the pipe. This is something that ordinary carbon steel boiler steel pipes cannot achieve. In boiler environments with high temperatures and sulfur content, ordinary carbon steel corrodes rapidly, while 15CrMoG maintains a relatively good condition.

Secondly, the mechanical properties of 15CrMoG boiler steel pipes offer advantages.
Strength and toughness balance: 15CrMoG typically has a tensile strength of 440-640 MPa, a yield strength of no less than 235 MPa, and an elongation after fracture of no less than 21%. It possesses both high strength to withstand steam pressure and prevent pipe rupture, and good toughness, preventing brittle fracture under impact and vibration, such as thermal stress during boiler start-up and shutdown. This makes it more suitable for complex operating conditions than some high-strength but less tough alloy steels.

Thirdly, the superior processing performance of 15CrMoG boiler steel pipes offers advantages.
Weldability: Although 15CrMoG is an alloy steel, high-quality welding can be achieved by using appropriate welding processes, selecting matching welding rods, and performing preheating before welding and heat treatment after welding. Compared to some high-alloy steels, its welding difficulty is relatively moderate; compared to carbon steel, the welded joint has better strength and toughness, and the heat-affected zone performance is more stable.
Cold working feasibility: It has a certain cold working capability, allowing for appropriate cold bending operations during on-site installation to adjust the pipe routing and meet the complex spatial layout requirements of the boiler, which is difficult to achieve with some brittle high-temperature alloy pipes.

Fourth, the cost-effectiveness advantage of 15CrMoG boiler steel pipes.
Excellent cost-performance ratio: Compared to high-end heat-resistant stainless steel boiler pipes, 15CrMoG meets the basic performance requirements of medium-high temperature and medium-high pressure power plant boilers while being more cost-effective. Unlike stainless steel, it does not contain large amounts of expensive elements such as nickel, making its procurement price more affordable. Furthermore, subsequent maintenance and replacement costs are relatively low, saving considerable expenses for power plant construction and operation.
